Yemen Conflict: Civil war has been going on in Yemen for many years and meanwhile the southern part has been captured by the United Arab Emirates (UAE)-backed separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC). The areas captured by the separatists contain large reserves of oil and are a major step for the country located on an international trade route, which could create new threats to the Persian Gulf region. Yemen has been embroiled in a civil war for more than a decade, fueled by a complex mix of sectarian grievances and the involvement of regional powers. The Iran-backed Houthis control the most populous areas of the country, including the capital Sanaa.

At the same time, all the powers including Saudi Arabia and UAE have supported the internationally recognized government in the southern region of Yemen. At the same time, the civil war has created a humanitarian crisis and devastated the economy. The violence has gradually subsided as both sides had reached a virtual stalemate in the war. This move by UAE-backed separatists has overturned the political system amid the anti-Huthi partnership. The war in Yemen began in 2014, when the Houthis marched from their stronghold of Saada. They captured the capital Sanaa and forced the internationally recognized government to leave the country. Saudi Arabia and the UAE entered into a war the following year in an attempt to restore the government. The new war in the country pits the STC against the forces of the internationally recognized government and its allied tribes, both of whom are members of the factions fighting against Houthi rebels in the country’s larger civil war.
STC has been making this demand for a long time
STC is a powerful organization in South Yemen, which receives financial and military support from the UAE. It was founded in April 2017 and was created for groups that wanted to re-establish Southern Yemen as an independent state. STC Group has gained a lot of strength after the recent incident. Also, they can benefit from any future talks to resolve the Yemen conflict. STC has long been demanding that Southern Yemen should be given the right to self-determination in any agreement. STC enjoys popular support in most parts of southern Yemen. It is chaired by Aidarus al-Zubaidi, who is also vice president of the country’s Presidential Leadership Council, the governing body of the internationally recognized government.
