Cloudburst in Kashmir: Three days have passed since the incident of disastrous cloudburst in Chisoti village of Paddar Sub-Division of Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. This accident not only destroyed houses, markets and temples, but also destroyed the world of hundreds of families. 82 people are still missing, mostly the devotees of Machail Mata Yatra. Relief and rescue operations continue, but the expectations and concerns of family members are increasing with every passing hour.
Search for missing devotees for three days
This cloudburst that came around 12:25 pm on Thursday afternoon caused a huge devastation in the village of Chisoti. So far, 60 people have been confirmed death and more than 100 injuries. 16 houses, three temples, a community anchor, a security post and several vehicles were destroyed. The highest number of 60 people of Jammu, Udhampur and Samba districts are missing. At the same time, there is no trace of devotees from Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. A CISF jawan is also missing till now.
Families’ sorrow and broken expectations
Weeds have spread in the houses of devotees from villages. Seven people of Binagarh village, including four children, have not been found so far. Some family members said that they have not even had food since the accident and are constantly praying for their loved ones to return. Poonam and her daughters Rashika and Namika of Sarai village of Samba district are also missing, while husband and son survived. Similarly, people from many families from Jammu, Samba and Vijaypur are still missing. On the information of the dead body, the family members are circling the hospital and the morgue. One mother said, “Both my daughters were snatched away from me, my world is over.”
Relief work continues, but the situation is serious
NDRF, SDRF, Army, Police, Border Roads Organization and locals are constantly looking for debris removal and bodies. So far, 46 bodies have been identified and handed over to the family members. However, due to sharp streams and debris, there are problems in rescue work in many places. The administration has currently postponed the Machail Mata Yatra for the third day, which was going to start from 25 July to 5 September.
