Congress Vote Chori Rally: Taking forward its protest against vote theft, Congress will hold a grand rally in Delhi on Sunday i.e. today. Congress is holding this rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi against the government and the Election Commission for allegedly rigging the elections. Congress named this rally ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’, in which many big leaders including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will participate.

Revanth Reddy and DK Shivakumar will also be included

Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi is also likely to be present in the rally. Apart from this, top leaders including Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh and Sachin Pilot will participate in the rally. A group of 1,027 Congress leaders and workers left from Jammu on Saturday to participate in the rally to be held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on December 14 against the BJP government’s allegations of “vote theft”, a party spokesperson said. Apart from this, more than 1000 party workers from Karnataka have also reached Delhi.

Will submit memorandum of 5.50 crore signatures

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi are expected to address the gathering. Senior leaders will gather at the party’s Indira Bhawan headquarters and then go to Ramlila Maidan by bus. KC Venugopal, general secretary in-charge of the Congress organization, has said that the party has collected around 5.50 crore signatures against “vote theft”. After the rally, we have also requested a meeting with the President of India to submit this memorandum with 5.5 crore signatures.”

SIR issue heated up in Lok Sabha

The rally is coming days after a heated debate on electoral reforms in the Lok Sabha, in which the government and the opposition were at loggerheads over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral lists and other alleged electoral irregularities. While participating in the discussion on electoral reforms in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi had attacked the government and the Election Commission. He claimed that the BJP is “directing and using” the Election Commission (EC) to harm India’s democracy. A month ago, Gandhi had demanded giving machine-readable voter lists to all parties before the elections, scrapping the law that allows destruction of CCTV footage after 45 days, giving access to EVMs and changing the law that gives election commissioners “freedom to do whatever they want”.
