Punjab News: Punjab Police on Thursday busted a grenade attack module backed by Pakistan’s spy agency ISI and arrested 10 people. Officials said that the accused wanted to create unrest in Punjab. The accused were in contact with Pakistan-based handlers to carry out grenade attacks in Punjab. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said three of the accused have been identified as Kuldeep Singh, Shekhar Singh and Ajay Singh alias Ajay and they are residents of Sri Muktsar Sahib. He told that Amrik Singh, Parminder alias Chiri, Vijay, Sukhjit Singh alias Sukh Brar, Sukhwinder Singh, Karanvir Singh alias Vicky and Sajan Kumar alias Sanju have been brought on production warrants from different jails for the role of courier and facilitator. Police teams have also recovered a Chinese hand grenade from the accused.
The accused were in contact with Pakistani masters
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were in touch with Pakistan-based operators through three Malaysia-based operatives to coordinate the transportation and delivery of hand grenades. DGP Yadav said that the operators had been assigned the task of carrying out a grenade attack in a populated area to create unrest in the state. He said that further investigation is going on in this case to find out the forward and backward connections. Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said that acting on credible intelligence, an FIR was registered against suspects Kuldeep Singh, Shekhar Singh and Ajay Singh at Jodhewal police station. He said further investigation revealed that the foreign masterminds were Malaysia residents Ajay alias Ajay Malaysia, Jas Behbal and Pawandeep.
Local network revealed in investigation
Sharma said that the men lived together abroad and were in touch with local helpers Amrik Singh and Parminder, both of whom were earlier involved in drug smuggling for them. The Police Commissioner said that during the investigation, Ajay Malaysia’s brother Vijay, who was lodged in Ganganagar jail in a drug case, was also arrested on a production warrant for his role as a facilitator in the case. He said that the investigation revealed the local network involving accused Sukhjit Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Karanvir Singh and Sajan alias Sanju in the delivery of hand grenades in Punjab. Sharma said that the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act has been implemented. Said that Red Corner Notices have been issued against the accused working from abroad.
