Country service with studies: Civil security courses will be taught in Mumbai University, students will get training

The Directorate of Civil Protection and the University of Mumbai have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which has been finalized to include the Civil Protection Course in the academic course.

Mumbai: The government is considering including safety courses in universities with the aim of providing quick help to people during emergency situations. In this connection, the Maharashtra government has decided to introduce civil security courses in the course of Mumbai University, recognizing the important role of emergency response mechanisms on voluntary basis, which reflects the need for mock drills during emergency situations during the Indo-Pakistan conflict. The government is also trying to strengthen the Directorate of Civil Protection, which is surrounded by many issues ranging from lack of manpower to low daily allowance and insufficient sirens, vehicles and ambulances.

Civil Defense Directorate and Mumbai University signed a memorandum of understanding

The Directorate of Civil Protection and the University of Mumbai have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which has been finalized to include the Civil Protection Course in the academic course. Nagric Safety Director Prabhat Kumar told PTI that the syllabus will be taught in all engineering colleges affiliated to Mumbai University and its weightage will be 25 marks. Kumar said that students who want to serve the country while continuing their studies, will get an opportunity through this syllabus. He said that students will be trained to save lives during rescue operations and emergency situations. They will also be prepared to work closely with government and civilian agencies such as disaster management cells, fire parties and hospitals, especially during situations such as emergency and war.

Government is taking appropriate steps to strengthen civil security

Civil security has been focused on the coastal districts and mock drills conducted in Pune, Nashik and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The purpose of these exercises is to raise awareness among volunteers and the general public. The mock drill consisted of about 10,000 volunteers of civil security, home guards, NDRF and other emergency response agencies. An official said that the government is taking appropriate steps to strengthen civil security and its revival is going on. The Directorate of Civil Protection has long been struggling with manpower, vehicles (including rescue vans and ambulances), sirens and training equipment. However, these requirements are likely to be met soon.

Daily allowance of volunteers will increase

Although 420 workers approved for civil security are of 420 personnel, but only 135 employees are being worked out in the entire state. He said that some units like Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg have only one full -time government employee. Volunteers currently get a daily allowance of Rs 150 for their service. The proposal has been submitted to the government to increase this amount to Rs 500 per day. He said that apart from increase in proposed allowances, proposals have also been submitted to increase manpower, training equipment and siren. The government is positive about fulfilling these demands.
