NDA Vice President Candidate: Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan was declared his Vice Presidential candidate by NDA on Sunday. BJP President JP Nadda said that CP Radhakrishnan will be the Vice Presidential candidate of NDA. It is known that this post was vacant after the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar. The Vice President is scheduled to be held on 9 September. While 21 August is the last date for nomination. Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the Governor of Maharashtra on 31 July 2024. Before his appointment, he served as the Governor of Jharkhand for about one and a half years. As the Governor of Jharkhand, Shri Radhakrishnan was appointed by the President of India to take over as the Governor of Telangana and the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.
Experience of over four decades
Sri Radhakrishnan is a respected name in Tamil Nadu politics and public life with more than four decades. Born on 20 October 1957 in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Shri Radhakrishnan graduated in business administration. Starting as a volunteer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, he became a member of the State Executive Committee of Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1974. In 1996, Shri Radhakrishnan was appointed as Secretary of BJP in Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time from Coimbatore in 1998. He was again elected to the Lok Sabha in 1999. During his tenure as an MP, he served as the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee related to the textile. He was also a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Sector (PSU) and the Consultative Committee on Finance. He was also a member of the parliamentary special committee investigating the stock exchange scam. In 2004, Shri Radhakrishnan addressed the United Nations General Assembly as a member of the parliamentary delegation. He was also a member of the first parliamentary delegation who went to Taiwan.
Tamil Nadu BJP President from 2004 to 2007
From 2004 to 2007, Shri Radhakrishnan was the state president of BJP in Tamil Nadu. In this role, he performed a 19,000 km ‘Rath Yatra’, which lasted for 93 days. The yatra was organized to highlight their demands like connecting all Indian rivers, abolition of terrorism, implementing uniform civil code, prevention of untouchability and drug problem. He also led two more padyatras for various purposes. In 2016, Shri Radhakrishnan was appointed as the chairman of the Care Board of Kochi, he held the post for four years. Under his leadership, Care exports from India reached an all -time high of Rs 2532 crore.
Table tennis champion at college level
From 2020 to 2022, he was the All India in -charge of BJP for Kerala. On February 18, 2023, Shri Radhakrishnan was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand. During his first four months, he traveled to all 24 districts of Jharkhand and interacted with citizens and district officials. Apart from being an enthusiastic player, Sri Radhakrishnan was also champions of table tennis and long distance runner at the college level. He was also fond of cricket and volleyball. Sri Radhakrishnan has traveled to America, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Holland, Turkish, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Japan.
