Air India pilots are constantly complaining about getting sick. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol gave this important information in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.

According to the central government, after the Ahmedabad aircraft accident, there has been a “slight increase” in informing all the fleet pilots of Air India. On June 16, 112 pilots reported to be ill in a single day. In response to a question asked by a Lok Sabha member whether after the accident, Air India flight crew members are being reported to be sick on a large scale, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said on Thursday that there has been a slight increase in the information about the illness of the pilots and on June 16, 51 commanders reported to be sick.

This important information given

Minister Muralidhar Mohol said in a written reply, “After the AI-171 accident, there has been a slight increase in informing all Air India fleet pilots. On 16 June 2025, a total of 112 pilots reported to be sick, including 51 commanders (P1) and 61 first officials (P2).” The airline’s Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which was going to London, collided with a building soon after flying from Ahmedabad on 12 June. 260 people died in this deadly accident, out of which 241 passengers were boarding the aircraft and 19 people were on the ground. Luckily a passenger survived the accident. In the medical circular issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in February 2023, the airlines were advised to have a separate, free and customized training capsule for the flight crew/ATCO (air traffic control) to identify and manage the adverse effects of mental health conditions.

Advice to set up a support program

Mohol said, “In addition, in relation to mental health monitoring, organizations (Scheduled and non-educated operators, FTOs and AAIs) have also been advised to set up a colleague aid program (PSP) for their employees. Organizations are required to enable access to this active and non-dignified program which is required to ensure that flight crew/ATCOs are required to recognize any problem and ensure that the flight crew/ATCOs Will help and support in controlling. ” FTOs and AAI refer to flight training organizations and airports Authority of India respectively.
