RML Hospital: Delhi High Court was hearing a petition by NGO Kutumb, which demanded availability of essential medicines for needy patients from the Central Government and RML Hospital officials.
RML Hospital : A petition was filed in the High Court regarding unavailability of proper medical facilities in Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital of Delhi. While hearing this petition, the court has sought answers from the officials. The High Court has asked the Medical Superintendent of the hospital to file an affidavit on the petitioner’s complaint regarding the unavailability of Nucleic Acid Test (NAT), which is conducted to detect deadly infections like HIV, and essential medicines in the hospital. The court has listed the case for hearing on December 17.
Medicines are not being provided
The Delhi High Court was hearing a petition by the non-governmental organization Kutumb. During this, a demand was made to direct the Central Government and the officials of RML Hospital and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences (ABVIMS) to take necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential medicines, life-saving drugs and even safe blood transfusion facilities to the needy patients. Advocate Rudra Vikram Singh, representing the petitioner organisation, claimed that according to media reports, the RML is being conducted at the hospital without NAT, which is a critical safety procedure designed to detect deadly infections like HIV and Hepatitis B, C.
Only serology is being used
The petition filed said that the NAT machine at the hospital had allegedly stopped working in November 2024 and since then only routine serology tests were being conducted. This also includes those patients who require frequent blood transfusions like thalassemia. It said there is non-availability of essential medicines and supplies, and poor patients are being forced to buy medicines from outside at exorbitant prices. This defeats the basic purpose of government hospitals and deprives the economically weaker sections of health care.
