Delhi Protest Against Pollution: The air in the capital Delhi has now become poisonous. The patience of Delhiites also broke. On Sunday, parents and activists protested at India Gate against increasing air pollution. Hundreds of people, including parents and environmental activists, protested at India Gate on Sunday against the deteriorating air quality in the national capital. Many of the protesters included mothers with children. He said that they have gathered to demand immediate action from the government to ensure clean air.
‘Every third child has damaged lungs’
Environmentalist Bhavarin Khandari said, “We want to meet our elected officials. We had asked for an appointment with the chief minister, but we were refused. So many parents are here because their children are suffering.” “Every third child already has damaged lungs. They will live about 10 years less than children who grew up in clean air,” he said.
Another protester Abhishek said that the government has failed to provide even the basic right to breathe clean air. He said “During the tenure of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Delhi was known as the green capital. Today it is one of the most polluted cities in the world. Instead of taking responsibility, politicians keep blaming each other.”

According to the police, many protesters were detained for gathering without permission. A police officer said, “There was no permission to protest at India Gate. Some people were detained to maintain law and order and ensure that there was no disruption in security arrangements.” DCP (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahala said that the detained people were taken into preventive custody. Only Jantar Mantar has been designated as a protest site, where permission can be taken by following proper procedure.
Rahul Gandhi’s attack
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the government after the protesters were detained and asked why citizens peacefully demanding clean air were being treated like “criminals”. “The government should take decisive action on air pollution, instead of attacking citizens demanding clean air,” Gandhi said. He made the comment in response to a post by environmentalist Vimalendu Jha, in which he said protesters were taken and “crammed into a bus.”
