Japan Exports and Imports Grow: Japan’s economy surprised the world in September. Despite US tariff pressure, Japan’s exports have registered a growth of 4.2%. According to government data released on Wednesday, this increase is due to strong demand especially in Asian markets. According to data from the Japanese Ministry of Finance, Japan’s exports to Asia increased by 9.2% in September. At the same time, an increase of 5.8% was also seen in exports to China. That is, the markets of Asia have worked as a lifeline for Japan.

Demand low in Japan

Japan’s exports to America have declined by 13.3%. This is the sixth consecutive month when the demand for Japanese products has decreased in the American market. The automobile sector has suffered the biggest blow. In this, the export of cars to America has decreased by 24.2%. Big companies like Toyota Motor Corp are considered the backbone of Japan’s economy, so this decline is a matter of concern.

increase in imports

An overall increase of 3.3% was recorded in Japan’s imports in September. The special thing is that there was a growth of 6% in imports from Asia, in which imports from China increased by 9.8%. This shows that financial relations between Japan and China still remain strong.
At the same time, just a day before the release of these figures, Japan created history by electing Sanae Takaichi as Prime Minister. She became the first female Prime Minister of Japan. After he assumed office, the Tokyo stock market witnessed a rise as investors are now expecting more spending and looser monetary policy. This may weaken the Japanese Yen, which will prove to be a boon for the country’s exporters as the value of foreign earnings will increase in Yen.

no less challenges

However, the path before Takaichi is not easy. His party Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is not in majority in both the houses of the Parliament. Apart from this, there are differences within the party also. On the other hand, Donald Trump had imposed 15% import tax on Japan in July, which is less than the earlier mentioned 25%. In return, Japan promised to invest $550 billion in America and open its market to American cars and rice.
