Double engine government improved farmers’ lives: Yogi
CM Adityanath said that in the last eight years, the double engine government of the state has actively worked to improve the lives of farmers. He criticized the previous governments and said that farmers have never been priority in their agenda. Farmers lacked quality seeds, proper MSP rates, timely fertilizer, irrigation facilities, modern technology and access to soil health management. He said that no attention was paid to reducing the cost of farming and increasing productivity. He highlighted initiatives like soil health card campaign.
CM said- increased irrigation facilities in Uttar Pradesh
CM said that farmers are now benefiting from schemes like PM Crop Insurance Scheme, PM Irrigation Scheme, Minimum Support Price (MSP) and PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi. He said that farmers are being linked to modern technology. In 2014-15, wheat prices were less than Rs 1,000 per quintal, but today MSP is Rs 2,425 and some farmers have sold wheat in the market for Rs 2,800. The Chief Minister said that there has been a significant improvement in irrigation facilities in Uttar Pradesh. More than 1.5 million farmers have got free connections for their personal tube wells. The state government collects Rs 2,500 crore every year to support this initiative. Major projects like Saryu Canal National Project, Bansagar Project and Arjun Assistant have helped to provide additional irrigation to 23 lakh hectares of land under the double engine government.
Fifth agricultural university to be built in Kushinagar
The Chief Minister further mentioned that the fifth agricultural university in Uttar Pradesh will be established at Kushinagar, which will be named after Lord Buddha. Farmers in UP are now increasing their income. Prior to 2017, it was common to hear the farmers about setting their fields on fire as they did not get the payment slip or sugarcane outstanding for years. His anger reflects the failures of previous governments. He said that earlier sugar mills were closing, but under their government, closed mills have been revived and new mills have been set up.
