Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has failed to recruit local youth for terrorism. And now it is promoting drugs between them to ruin the younger generation of Kashmir.
Drugs in Srinagar: Along with the security forces continuing their fight against terrorism, the Srinagar Police has launched a campaign against drug abuse and smuggling, under which 97 people have been arrested in the last three months and 73 cases have been registered. Officials have cited intelligence reports that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has failed to recruit local youth for terrorism. And now it is promoting drugs between them to ruin the younger generation of Kashmir. Due to the strict action of the police, it has become difficult to get heroin. In Srinagar, youth addicted to drug addicts are moving towards medical opioid (pain reliever) as an alternative. Dr. Mohammad Muzaffar Khan, head of the local drug addiction center, confirms this change, saying that the demand for intoxicating analgesics has increased.
Srinagar police campaigned
Khan said that due to strict action by the police, it has become difficult to get heroin. When the summon becomes very fast, people resort to medicinal pills. He said that these pills are often purchased by illegal mediums, bypassing medical shops and sometimes from cities like Delhi or Amritsar through courier from outside Jammu and Kashmir. The price of a bandage is Rs 150, while the price of a dose in the black market can be up to Rs 800. Khan also pointed to a change in heroin addiction with cannabis and charas grown locally in the last seven-eight years. The Srinagar police launched an aggressive campaign amidst a huge increase in psychiatric drugs, especially heroin intake among the youth. It arrested 97 people between April and July. 73 cases were registered.
Brown sugar, heroin, charas seized
Apart from brown sugar (3.57 kg), heroin (1.73 kg), charas (203.43 kg), Phuki (11.95 kg), psychopathic pills, capsules, cannabis and cannabis were seized. Police are targeting the financial network behind drug trafficking and freeze 29 bank accounts besides seizing assets including six vehicles and nine residential houses associated with smugglers. The police have detained 21 people under the PIT-NDPS Act and destroyed three drug hotspots. The police launched two departmental investigation to allegedly fail in their duties against the prosecution witnesses along with the investigating officers.
Youth eat 10-15 bullets at a time
Khan said that misuse of opioid (pain reliever) affects people of all ages. Highlight that the patients, even at the age of 20, often eat 10-15 tablets at a time to mimic the effects of heroin. He said that this problem affects people of all ages, including people of the thirtys. This is a serious issue. Khan credited the Jammu and Kashmir Police for interrupting the heroin supply chain. A young youth are now urging the youth to stay away from drugs at any cost. Srinagar police said that the ongoing campaign is being seen not only to fight crime but also as an important step for the safety of the future generation of the region.
