Allegations of disproportionate assets while being jail minister

The investigation of money refinement stems from Tamil Nadu Vigilance and Anti -Corruption Director (DVAC) from the case of disproportionate assets registered against Periyasamy and his family. The ED said that crimes imposed in the charge sheet (filed by DVAC) are scheduled offenses under the PMLA. According to the charge sheet filed by DVAC, Periasamy and his family had disproportionate assets of about Rs 2 crore. The ED said that it has been alleged in the charge sheet that Periasam had acquired disproportionate assets as a revenue and jail minister. Periyasamy and his family were accused by a special court in Dindigul.

ED action attempt to divert attention from vote theft

However, on the appeal of the DVAC, the Madras High Court quashed the accused order in April and directed the special court to conduct a hearing and complete it within six months. The ED said that however, the Supreme Court has stayed the trial before the special court during the hearing on Monday. The ruling DMK strongly defended Periyasamy, saying that the ED’s action is an attempt to divert attention from “vote theft”, which is a word created by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for alleged electoral fraud in the 2024 elections, which was won by the BJP -led NDA. The ED’s statement said that further investigation in the case is in progress.
