Election Commission: The Election Commission on Monday ordered Special Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Assam. The final voter list will be published on February 10, 2026. According to the instructions issued by the Election Commission, January 1, 2026 will be the qualifying date for conducting special revision for the state. A senior official said that instead of counting forms, booth level officials will verify the voters on the pre-filled register. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has welcomed the Election Commission’s decision to conduct special revision of the voter list in the state. He has assured full cooperation of the government. The Chief Minister said that this will help in ensuring clean, updated and accurate voter list for all eligible citizens. Assam will extend full cooperation to @ECISVEEP to complete the amendment in a transparent & time bound manner.
Door-to-door verification from November 22 to December 20
As per the schedule, door-to-door verification will take place from November 22 to December 20. The integrated draft voter list will be published on December 27 and the final roll on February 10 next year. For field verification, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be given pre-filled BLO register containing details of existing voters in their respective areas for door-to-door field visits. The family is the basic unit for conducting a door-to-door survey and getting the above details verified or corrected by the voter or head of the household. It said that details of D-voters (doubtful voters) will not be included in the register, as no verification is necessary in their case. D-voters are determined by special tribunals under the Foreigners Act, 1946 and a person declared a D-voter is not given a voter identity card.
Elections in Assam also next year
All relevant details like name, age and photo of D-voters will be added to the draft voter list without any changes. It is underlined that any amendment, including deletion or deletion, will be made upon receipt of orders from the competent foreign tribunal or any appropriate court. Last month, the Election Commission had ordered SIR for Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep. Of these, elections will be held in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and West Bengal in 2026. Elections are to be held in Assam next year also. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had recently said that a special order will be issued by the Election Commission to conduct SIR in Assam. He said that in such circumstances it does not apply to Assam.
