Fierce fire in Mumbai’s ED office, no casualties

Due to poor ventilation, the smoke was filled inside the building, which caused a lot of difficulty in entering the fire extinguishers. Short circuit caused fire and goods were burnt to ashes.

Mumbai: A fierce fire broke out in the ED office of Mumbai on Sunday. Many files and equipment were damaged in the fire. There have been no casualties. Officials said that the office of the Enforcement Directorate in South Mumbai caught fire in the early hours of Sunday, although there were no casualties in the incident.

Fire on the fourth floor of the five -storey building erupted for hours

An official of the Mumbai Fire Department said that the Level III (big) fire in the Kaiser-e-Hind building in the Ballad Estate area was extinguished at 2:10 pm after a 12-hour continuous campaign, during which eight fire engines, six jetty, water tankers and other equipment were deployed. The fire on the fourth floor of the five -storey building with ED office erupted for hours and was controlled at around 12.15 pm when it was covered from all sides. Ravindra Ambulgekar, chief fire officer of Mumbai Fire Brigade, told PTI that the fire was limited to the fourth floor of the building and the Mejenine floor.

Explaining why it took so much time to extinguish the fire, Ambulgekar said that due to poor ventilation, the smoke was filled inside the building, which caused a lot of difficulty in entering the fire extinguishing. Ambulgekar said that the fire extinguishers had to break the doors and break the windows to enter the building. The top MFB official said, “No one was injured in this incident. Investigation is being done to find out the cause of the fire.

Police officer said – fire broke out due to short circuit

The MFB Control Room said that the cooling operation is going on. It is a process to ensure that fire does not furore again with coals etc. A senior police officer said that a short circuit caught fire and furniture, shelves and electrical equipment were burnt to ashes. He said that the police teams are on the spot and are investigating the incident.

Another police officer said that ED employees visited the spot on Sunday and conducted a thorough inspection of the building. He said that no complaint has been filed by the ED, although the Mumbai Police has done a detailed panchnama and took a record. This officer said that further action from the police will be based on the MFB report, which is yet to come. Officials said that many documents and equipment have been burnt in the fire.
