Pakistan-Afghanistan: There was heavy firing on the border between the armies of Pakistan and Afghanistan late Friday night. During this period, there is no news of any casualty or any loss from either side. Both the countries have blamed each other for the firing in violation of the ceasefire agreement in force for the last two months. Talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan in November aimed at reducing border tensions and maintaining the ceasefire were unsuccessful, but the ceasefire agreement brokered by Qatar in October largely remained intact. A day before the firing, Pakistan had said that it would allow the United Nations to send relief material to Afghanistan through the Chaman and Torkham borders. These borders have been closed for almost two months due to increasing tension.

Pak-Afghan accused each other

Pakistani police officer Mohammad Sadiq claimed that the firing started from the Afghan side and Pakistani troops retaliated near the Chaman border. Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Afghan Taliban government in Kabul, accused Pakistan of starting the firing. Afghan Border Police spokesperson Abidullah Farooqui also said that first the Pakistani Army threw a hand grenade in the Spin Boldak border area towards Afghanistan, after which retaliatory action was taken. He said that Afghanistan is committed to the ceasefire. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s spokesperson Musharraf Zaidi said on social media platform ‘X’ that earlier in the evening the Afghan Taliban regime opened fire on the Chaman border without any reason. He said that the Pakistani Army is fully alert.

Will give a befitting reply to the war: Afghanistan

Said that the Army is committed to ensuring the territorial integrity of the country and the security of its citizens. Tension between the two countries has increased after the border clashes in October. Dozens of soldiers, civilians and suspected extremists were killed in this conflict and hundreds of people from both sides were injured. Violence broke out after the explosions on October 9 in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. The Taliban government held Pakistan responsible for these blasts and vowed to take revenge. This was the most severe conflict between the two neighboring countries in recent years. The ceasefire agreement brokered by Qatar reduced tensions to some extent, but no agreement could be reached during subsequent peace talks in Istanbul. Afghan Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that he is in favor of peace and does not want war. Said that if anyone starts a war, he will be given a befitting reply.
