Punjab flood: In view of the flood situation in Punjab, Rupnagar district administration on Wednesday said that people living on the banks of the Sutlej river should go to safe places with alert. Meanwhile, the police have started evacuating the shore areas in view of the rising water level of the Sutlej river. Because huge amount of water has been released from Bhakra Dam in Himachal Pradesh. The water level of Bhakra Dam was 1,677.84 feet at 6 am on Wednesday, while its maximum capacity is 1,680 feet. The dam had 86,822 cusecs of water while the outflow was 65,042 cusecs. Officials said that in view of heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, water discharge from the dam is being increased from 65,000 cusecs to 75,000 cusecs, which can affect the villages of Nangal region. He said that these villages are Harsa Bela, Bela Ramgarh, Bela Dhyani Upper, Bela Dhyani Lower, Sensowal, Elgal, Bella Shiv Singh, Bhanlan, Bhanam, Singhapura, Palasi, Sah Mazara and Majari. Apart from this, the villagers of Shri Anandpur Sahib area have been asked to be vigilant and if necessary, to go to safe places.

The officials have asked the people of rural Burj, Chandpur Bela, Gajpur Bela, Shahpur Bela, Nikkuwal, Amarpur Bela, Lodipur village to be vigilant. Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, who is an MLA from Anandpur Sahib, said that there was heavy rainfall in Rupnagar district, causing heavy water flow in Bhakra Dam.
