Yogi Adityanath: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday said that it was only after Narendra Modi came to power at the Center in 2014 that farming and farmers’ welfare became part of the main agenda of the government. Interacting with sugarcane farmers at his official residence, the Chief Minister said that the recent decision to increase the price of sugarcane for the 2025-26 crushing season shows the government’s commitment to the prosperity of farmers. Farmers, excited by the increase, met Adityanath to express their gratitude. The UP government on Wednesday announced an increase in the price of sugarcane by Rs 30 per quintal for the 2025-26 crushing season. It was described as a big farmer-friendly decision which will benefit lakhs of farmers across the state. With the latest amendment, the price of early variety of sugarcane has been fixed at Rs 400 per quintal and the price of normal variety has been fixed at Rs 390 per quintal. With this increase, additional payment of approximately Rs 3,000 crore will be made to the farmers.

According to an official statement, Adityanath while addressing the farmers said that when Modi ji’s government was formed in 2014, for the first time the interests of farming and farmers were brought to the center of governance. Before this, no one cared about the health of the soil on which we grow crops. Prime Minister Modi started the Soil Health Card Scheme and PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi freed the farmers from the clutches of moneylenders. He said that his government fulfilled the promise of waiving off the loans of 86 lakh farmers on the very first day of assuming power in 2017. In the last eight and a half years, 23 lakh hectares of additional land has been brought under irrigation. Earlier, farmers used to work hard, but middlemen used to earn profits. We have changed this system. Now farmers are paid directly into their bank accounts.

closed sugar mills opened

Adityanath said that no state or country can progress by disrespecting its farmers. Former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh used to say that the path to the country’s prosperity passes through the fields of the farmers. But the previous governments ignored the farmers, due to which Uttar Pradesh came in the category of backward states. The Chief Minister alleged that the previous governments were driven by a sick mentality and were focused only on the welfare of their families. He said that between 2007 and 2017, sugar mills were closing or being sold. We stopped this trend. Comparing the performance, the Chief Minister said that during 2007-2017, sugarcane payment of only Rs 1,47,346 crore was made, while since 2017, the payment has reached a record Rs 2,90,225 crore. Said that Rs 1,42,879 crore more than the last decade.
