Information Commissioners: The three-member committee led by Prime Minister Modi has approved the Chief Election Commissioner and 8 new Information Commissioners. Now President Murmu will administer oath to the new CIC on Monday.

Information Commissioners : Former IAS officer Raj Kumar Goel will be administered the oath of office as Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) by President Draupadi Murmu on Monday. He told on Saturday that a three-member panel headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved Goyal’s name. Raj Kumar Goyal has been an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram cadre of 1990 batch (retired). Also, on August 31, he retired from the post of Secretary in the Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice.

The post of CIC had become vacant.

He has served as Secretary in the Home Ministry. Besides, he has held important positions in both the Center and the then state of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said President Draupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Goyal on Monday. The post of CIC had become vacant after the completion of Hiralal Samaria’s tenure on September 13. In the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday, the names of 8 Information Commissioners (IC) have also been recommended in the Information Commission. It is being told that after the approval of the names of CIC and eight ICs, the Commission will work with full strength after a gap of more than 9 years. Let us tell you that the Commission is headed by CIC and there can be 10 ICs along with it.

These will be the new 8 information commissioners

For now, Anandi Ramalingam and Vinod Kumar Tiwari are working as Information Commissioners in the Commission. Officials said the names of former Railway Board chief Jaya Verma Sinha, former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Swagat Das, then Central Secretariat Service (CSS) officer Sanjeev Kumar Jindal, former IAS officer Surendra Singh Meena and former Indian Forest Service officer Khushwant Singh Sethi have been recommended for appointment as Information Commissioners. Apart from this, senior journalists PR Ramesh and Ashutosh Chaturvedi are included. Besides, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) member (legal) Sudha Rani Relangi has also been elected as IC by the panel.

Will take oath of office in front of CIC

Officials said that eight Information Commissioners will take oath of office before the new CIC. Let us tell you that the names of CIC and eight ICs have been approved in the meeting of the Modi-led committee, which was attended by Union Minister Amit Shah and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Meanwhile, it is being told that Rahul Gandhi had also given a note questioning the criteria adopted for selection.
