Ranil Wickreaminghe News: Former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe (Ranil Wickremesinghe) The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was arrested on Friday in Colombo on Friday. The arrest of the former President has been alleged to have allegedly misused government money during his tenure as the President. Police said 76 -year -old Ranil Wickremesinghe was arrested at CID headquarters, where he was called to record the statement for investigating the alleged misuse of government funds. After this he was produced in a magistrate court in Colombo. Let us know that Wickramasinghe was the President of Sri Lanka from 2022 to 2024.
Stuck for joining private program
Ranil Wickramasinghe was accused of using government money to visit England in September 2023 to attend the convocation of his wife Professor Friendship. It was alleged that Wickramasinghe had moved to Britain at government expense to attend his wife’s private program while returning from America after an official program. CID most questioned his employees. Wickramasinghe took over after the 2022 economic crisis and is known for highlighting the crisis. Also, he has been in Parliament for more than five decades and he also took over the post of Prime Minister in six different terms.
Prime Minister for the first time in 1993
After the assassination of President Ranasinghe Premadasa, Wickremesinghe was made the Sri Lanka Prime Minister for the first time from 1993 to 1994. According to BBC Sinhala, while being President, Wickremesinghe made 23 foreign trips, which cost more than about 600 million Sri Lankan. Let us know that after independence of Sri Lanka in 1949, Wickremesinghe became the first MP in 1977 at the age of 28 and he started working in the Youth League of the United National Party from university days. At that time, Sri Lanka’s youngest minister came to light and during that time he took charge as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in the presence of President Jayawardene. After this, he was made a cabinet minister as the Minister of Youth and Employment.
