Chhath Puja Rituals Importance: Bihar Mahaparva will start from tomorrow, 25th October. Chhath fast is considered the most difficult in Sanatan Dharma, because this waterless fast lasts for four days. Chhath is not just a festival for the people of UP and Bihar but it is their identity and their pride. This festival dedicated to Sun God and Chhathi Maiya is celebrated with great pomp in Bihar and UP. Biharis living in different corners of the country return to their villages at this time. Very few people know what the rituals of Chhath festival are like. In this article, we will tell you about the rules of every day and their importance, from Nahay-Khay to Arghya on the last day.
Chhath starts from Nahay-Khay (25 October)

The first day of Chhath is of Nahay-Khay. On this day, fasting women and men wake up before sunrise. Take bath in Ganga or Yamuna and offer Arghya to Sun God. Satvik food is prepared by cleaning the entire house and kitchen. On the day of Nahay Khay, Prasad of gram dal, rice and gourd or pumpkin vegetable is made. Use of garlic and onion is prohibited in this and rock salt is used. The devotees worship Chhathi Maiya. After this, while consuming food, they take a pledge to observe Chhath fast. With this, Chhath fast begins.
Kheer Prasad is made on Kharna (26 October)

Kharna is done the next day after Nahay-Khay. Those fasting who eat satvik food on Nahay Khay observe Nirjala fast on this day. On this day, Chhathi Maiya and Suryadev are worshiped in the evening. In the evening, prasad of jaggery and rice kheer and roti is made. This kheer is made by burning mango wood on the stove. At the time of puja, offerings of vermillion, fruit kheer and roti on banana leaves are offered to Chhathi Maiya. Fasters worship for the happiness and prosperity of their family. After this the devotees take Prasad and distribute it.
Devotees go to the ghat for evening Arghya (27 October)

The third day of Sandhya Arghya is very special. Even on the third day, the fasting person does not consume food or water for the whole day. Special Prasad of Thekua is made on this day. In the evening, devotees go to Ganga or Yamuna ghat to offer Arghya to the Sun. Prasad of thekua, fruits, sugarcane, coconut and many types of fruits is offered to Sun God and Chhathi Maiya at the ghat. Standing in the water, the devotees offer Prasad to the Sun God in soup and bamboo basket and offer water and milk to the last ray of the sun. Offering Arghya to the setting sun means accepting all the ups and downs of life. Just as the sun rises and sets every day, similarly happiness and sorrow come and go in life.
Chhath fast ends with Usha Arghya (28 October)

The fourth and last day of Chhath is Usha Arghya. The next morning after Sandhya Arghya, the devotees again reach the same place with all types of offerings and stand in the water and wait for the first rays of the sun. After this, Prasad is also offered to the rising sun and Arghya of water and milk is offered. Offering Arghya to the rising sun means welcoming a new beginning in life. By absorbing new energy from the sunlight, the fasting person thanks God for the health and success of his family. After this, the devotees break the fast by eating Prasad. With this, Chhath fast ends.
