Israel-Hamas War: The Israeli army attacked Al-Ahli Hospital in North Gaza in the early hours of Sunday, after which patients and medical personnel had to be taken out in a hurry. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, a patient who was a girl died in the attack, as medical workers were unable to provide immediate care. The attack took place on the day of the holy ‘Palm Sunday’ of the Christian community, which is celebrated in memory of Jesus’ entry and is a symbol of the beginning of Holi Week.
Jerusalem Diosis condemns the attack
Jerusalem Diocese, which operates this hospital, condemned the attack in strong words. Diosis said, “On the day of Palm Sunday, when the most sacred week of Christian year is starting, this attack shocked us.” The Israeli army claimed that Hamas had a command and control center in the hospital, which was being used to plot attacks against Israeli citizens and soldiers. However, no evidence was given in support of this claim.
Israeli claims: Warned before the attack
The Israeli army said that a warning was issued for the safety of the citizens before the attack and aerial monitoring. Hospital director Dr. Fadel Naeem confirmed that he had received a warning before the attack. According to his post on the social media platform ‘X’, the emergency room, pharmacy and nearby buildings were badly damaged in the attack, affecting more than 100 patients and dozens of medical workers.
11 deaths in 24 hours, more than 100 injured
Gaza’s Health Ministry said that in the attack, there was heavy damage to the external disease wards, laboratories and emergency rooms. In the pictures, the broken roof of the hospital and the debris spread around it clearly appear. Dr. Munir al-Bure, Director General of the Ministry, said, “It was frightening to take patients to the streets on the beds.” In the last 24 hours, 11 people have been reported dead in Gaza and more than 100 people were injured.
Another attack in Dir al-Balah
A few hours after the attack, seven people died in an airstrikes on a car in Dir Al-Balah of Central Gaza. Employees of Al-Aksa Marters Hospital said that six brothers and a friend of the dead were among the dead. The Israeli army claimed that it targeted another command center in Hamas in Dir al-Balah, where the fighters were plotting to attack Israeli soldiers. The army clarified that the attack was not related to the attack on the car and is being investigated.
Pressure on Hamas to release hostages
Israel has said to release the remaining 59 hostages on Hamas and pressurize them to accept the conditions of the new ceasefire. Of these, 24 hostages are estimated to be alive. After the statement of the Israeli Defense Minister, these attacks took place, in which he had talked about intensifying military activities in Gaza and removing people from the struggle areas.
