Monsoon Fury: The local Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued a red alert warning of heavy to very heavy rain in Kangra, Chamba and Mandi districts.
Monsoon fury: Due to heavy rains in Himachal, shops were washed away due to landslides and sudden floods at many places in the state, buildings collapsed, highways were cut and residential areas were submerged. However, no casualties have been reported in any incident since Monday night. The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) said that till Tuesday morning a total of 690 roads were closed in the state. Out of closed roads, 320 are in Mandi district and 132 are in Kullu. The local Meteorological Department has issued a red alert on Tuesday warning of heavy to very heavy rain in Kangra, Chamba and Mandi districts. It has also released ‘Orange’ alert for heavy rains in different areas in Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts on Friday and on Saturday in Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts.
Manali-Leh highway
The strong streams of the Beas river shed a multi -storey hotel and four shops in Manali in Kullu district in the early hours of Tuesday. Due to the rise of the river, the water entered the Alou Maidan in Manali, while the national highway connecting Chandigarh and Manali was damaged at many places. About 200 meters of the Manali-Leh highway also flowed into the water of the swollen Beas river, which closed the route and two major parts of the national highway were stuck. While Manali to Burua route was also destroyed near the old Manali. Raman Sharma, the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Manali, said that Manali’s contact has been lost from the right side. Since Monday, four shops, two restaurants and one house have been damaged. The water level of Vyas river increased further on Tuesday after 20,000 cusecs of water was released from Largi Dam.
Two buildings with 40 shops
The authorities have advised people to stay away from the banks of the river and landslide potential areas. In Kullu, Ghanvi himself entered the river water houses, while two buildings with 40 shops collapsed in Balichowki area of Mandi district late on Monday night. However, there were no casualties due to the building being evacuated earlier. According to the Meteorological Department, Naina Devi received 160.8 mm of rain from Monday evening, followed by 125.2 mm in Bathiat, 102–102 mm in Manali and Dharamshala, 91.4 mm in Ghamur, 89 mm in Kangra, 88 mm in Palampur, 85.8 mm in Kothi, 77.2 mm in Bhuntar, 77.8 mm in Bhuntar Karsog received 65.2 mm of rain. According to SEOC, at least 156 people have died in rain -related incidents in Himachal Pradesh between June 20 and August 25, while 38 are missing. There have been incidents of sudden floods, 41 times cloudburst and 82 big landslides in the state so far. According to SEOC data, the state has lost Rs 2,394 crore in rain -related incidents.
