Heavy rain havoc in Kerala: tree fell on a moving train

Due to the ongoing heavy rains, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed five northern districts Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod on ‘Red Alert’.

Many houses and vehicles were damaged due to falling trees. One died. A tree fell on a moving train in Thrissur. One person died after falling a tree on a scooter in Kozhikode. Many houses were damaged. Rivers are in spate. The gates of some dams have been lifted. On Sunday morning, a tree fell on a moving train near the railway bridge in Cheruthuruthi in Thrissur district. Officials said that the loco pilot stopped the train, which averted the accident.

Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod on ‘Red Alert’

Five gates of Malankara dam were opened in Idukki district on Sunday morning due to the rise in the water level. After releasing water from the dam, the residents living on the banks of Thodupuzha and Movatupuzha rivers have been advised to take precautions. Local people said that a major accident was averted in the middle of Kollam city, when a large flex board fell on the roadside.

Chief Minister’s review meeting postponed in Kannur

Many houses and vehicles were damaged due to falling trees in Kunnathunad and Munambam Harbor in Ernakulam district. After continuous rains, a landslide incident has come to light in Kuppam in North Kannur district. Due to bad weather, forest officials banned the entry of tourists to the Ecoturism Center in Ponmudi on Sunday. The CMO said that the regional review meeting to be chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Kannur on 26 May has been postponed due to heavy rains. The IMD had announced the arrival of the state a premature monsoon time on Saturday, stating that Kerala was witnessing the arrival of the monsoon before the time after a gap of 16 years.
