Husband and wife arrested for loans fraud worth crores

New Delhi: The Economic Offenses Branch of Delhi Police (EOW) has arrested a prominent accused, who cheated private banks by mortgaging the same property several times. According to EOW, the case is of November 2019, when Manish and his wife Anita contacted the Rajouri Garden branch of a private bank demanding an overdraft facility of Rs 3 crore, calling themselves directors of a private limited company.

Loan was taken through the fake signature and fake documents of the sub-registrar

During this time he presented a sales deed for the third floor residential property in Dwarka, claiming that it is full and is owned by Anita. On which the bank approved the loan. The sales deeds presented were found to be fake and the signature of the sub-registrar was forged. Following the complaint of the first private bank, an FIR related to criminal betrayal, fraud, forgery and criminal conspiracy was lodged in December 2022 under sections of the Indian Penal Code. Investigation revealed that the couple coined several sales deeds of the same property and used them to get financial facilities from various banks. He also made the address evidence and financial documents of the address.

Earlier accused worked as a textile agent

An EOW official said Anita was arrested in April 2024. Manish, who had been escaping from arrest since then, was arrested on 28 April. According to EOW, 45-year-old Manish was born and raised in a government quarters near Teen Murti Marg. Bachelor of Arts, he worked as a textile agent before acquiring a private company in 2018 and started a garment construction unit in Uttam Nagar. The statement said that to expand his business, he misused banking systems by obtaining loans through fake documents and then escaped. Further investigation is going on in the case. EOW said that more revelations are expected.
