Maratha Reservation: Bhujbal claimed that OBC is already struggling to achieve limited opportunities in government jobs and educational institutions.
Maratha Reservation: Maharashtra minister and senior OBC leader Chhagan Bhujbal said on Monday that the Marathas should not be included in the other backward class quota. He said that only 17 percent reservation is available for 374 communities in the state. Talking to reporters after a meeting of OBC leaders, Bhujbal warned that if the reservation set for the OBC community was cut, millions of people would protest. Activist Manoj Jarange is on hunger strike to seek the status of Kunbi for the Marathas at Azad Maidan in South Mumbai from August 29, so that they can get the benefit of quota because the kunbi other backward classes (OBC) Are part of
Only 17 percent reservation for OBC
Bhujbal said that the court has already described the demand to classify the Marathas and Kunbi as a community. 6 percent of the 27 percent reservation prescribed for OBCs are scheduled for nomadic tribes, 2 percent for the gowari community and other small parts for various groups. Only 17 percent reservation is left and it is also shared between 374 communities. He said that the Marathas should not be included in the OBC. I request with folded hands. Minister Bhujbal said that he has continuously opposed the demand of Jarange. The minister reiterated that such a step would be injustice to the existing backward communities. He claimed that OBCs are already struggling to achieve limited opportunities in government jobs and educational institutions, and reduce their share will harm them.
CM made aware of concerns
The minister further said that he had first met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the day to make them aware of the concerns of OBC groups. He said that I have made the Chief Minister aware of the stance adopted by various OBC organizations, and they have made it clear that they will not let their rights be compromised. He further warned that if the reservation set for him is cut, then lakhs of OBCs will protest. He said that if the Marathas get reservation without changing OBC quota, then we have no problem. In recent months, Bhujbal has emerged as one of the strongest voices opposing Jaranga, which focuses on the demand to recognize the Marathas as a clan through documentary evidence and historical gazetteer, to bring them to the purview of OBCs. He has argued that such a revivaling is neither legally valid nor socially appropriate.
