Illegal tomb demolished in Doon Hospital campus in Dehradun

After examining the documents, it was found that it is illegal, after which action was taken. There were also complaints about this structure that the people coming to the hospital were being inconvenienced.

Dehradun: An illegally constructed tomb standing in the premises of Government Doon Medical College and Hospital for decades was demolished. While the State Waqf Board has claimed that it is a valid structure. An official of the Kotwali police station said on Saturday that the city administration demolished the structure using two JCB excavation machines on Friday night after sealing the area. Officials said that a resident of Rishikesh had lodged a complaint against Mazar in the hospital premises on the CM Helpline Portal.

People coming to the hospital were getting inconvenience

He said that after examining the documents related to the structure, it was found that it is illegal, after which this action was taken. There were also complaints about this structure that this is causing inconvenience to the movement of people coming to the hospital, who are already struggling with lack of space. Officials said that the hospital administration had written a letter to the Uttarakhand government demanding the removal of it. A campaign has been going on to demolish illegal tombs in the state for the last two years. However, sources in the State Waqf Board claimed that the tomb was legal. He also described this action as unilateral in which the board was not taken into confidence.

Chairman of Uttarakhand Waqf Board met CM

Claiming the 100 -year -old Mazar, Chairman of Uttarakhand Waqf Board Shadab Shams told PTI that it was built on the body of a Sufi saint named Baba Kamal Shah. Shams said, “This structure was registered with the Waqf Board. I have raised the matter before the Chief Minister (Pushkar Singh Dhami), who has assured me that he will look into it.

Reacting to the demolition, State Congress Vice President Suryakant Dhasmana said, “While the government has the right to take action against any illegal thing, the way the tomb was demolished overnight, it shows that they (government) want to spread only hatred by some excuse.” The government can either demolish the tomb or action against the madrases. It is said that this tomb was already before Uttarakhand got state status in 2000.
