Heavy Rain in J&K: On Wednesday, heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir killed mother and daughter. While 40 people got caught in the flood in Akhnoor. SDRF took out all the people trapped. Officials said that after heavy rains in Anantnag district, the police rescued 25 nomadic families trapped under a bridge. Due to rain, the water level of rivers, drains and small rivers has increased, which are already flowing close to or above the danger mark. CM Abdullah instructed the administration to intensify relief and rescue, clean waterlogging areas, protect essential services, timely withdrawal in important areas and provide immediate relief.

Continuous rains killed a mother-daughter in Kangri village of Sundarbani in Rajouri district in the early hours of Wednesday. Both died after falling the roof of their house. Officials said that at least 40 people were trapped in Garkhal village of Akhnoor due to the rise of the Chenab river. He said that the state disaster response force (SDRF)) And the police teams have been sent to the village to take them to a safe place. Due to continuous heavy rains, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian and many areas of South Kashmir have been flooded. A spokesman for the Anantnag District Police said that the Anantnag police carried out a rapid rescue operation in Ang Anjwala and took out 25 nomadic families trapped due to a sudden increase in Liddar drain. He said that immediate relief was provided to the families extracted. Officials said the police rescued five nomadic families from Brajlu village after increasing the water level in Vaishov drain on Tuesday night in the neighboring Kulgam district. Emergency helpline has been set up in various police station areas of South Kashmir where the water level in water bodies is increasing considerably.

The bridge was damaged in the record rains on 26 August and the army restored the contact by constructing the Bailey Bridge on 29 August. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in Rajouri, Jammu, Kathua, Reasi, Doda, Udhampur and Ramban districts during the next 14-16 hours.
