Dhaka: Bangladesh’s deployed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s difficulties do not seem to decrease. A Bangladesh court on Thursday issued a new arrest warrant in a corruption case against the disorganized Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her daughter Saima Vajed Putul and 17 others, alleging that they have been accused of acquiring residential plots through fraud. On Thursday, the court of Senior Special Judge Zakir Hussain Ghalib of Dhaka Metropolitan issued an arrest warrant against him.
Charitable corruption agency prosecutor Mir Ahmed Salaam told reporters that Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Zakir Hussain Ghalib issued a warrant accepting the ACC charge sheet in the case. He said that the judge has asked the ACC to submit his inquiry report on 4 May for hearing the allegations related to the land leased by the state -run capital Unayan Kartripkkha in the Eastylian area of the capital Dhaka.
Case of allocation of plots in New City Housing Project
The ACC filed a case on January 12, 2025 against the disproportionate Prime Minister and other co-accused, mostly government officials. According to the charge sheet, Putul had illegally influenced his then Prime Minister Maa Hasina to apply for the allocation of plots in the Purvanchal New City Housing Project, violating laws, rules, policies and legal procedures, and to apply for them instead of RAJUK.
The ACC alleged that Putul did so despite the fact that he and his family members were owned by a house, flat or housing facility under the jurisdiction of RAJUK in Dhaka city. Bangladesh’s International Crime Tribunal had earlier issued two equal arrest warrants against Hasina, her political colleagues and senior citizens and military officials on allegations like crime against humanity. But Thursday’s warrant came a day after the ACC said that she has launched a new investigation into the alleged waste of 4 thousand crore Taka for the “Mujib Shatabdi” ceremony by Hasina, her younger sister Sheikh Rehana and a former officer.
The ACC alleged that the amount he had quoted was spent from the national treasury. He said that although the matter is under investigation and it started in January this year. Bangladesh celebrated a year -long celebration in 2020 with the 100th birth anniversary of Bangladesh’s father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, when Hasina’s Awami League was in power. Rehana did not take any official post in the previous government, while the third person to be investigated by the ACC is Kamal Abdul Nasar Chaudhary, who was the former Principal Secretary of the government, who worked as the chief coordinator of the festival after retiring from government jobs.
The court said- there is no difference between former Prime Minister and a normal corrupt person
ACC President Mohammad Abdul Momeman had said that there is no difference between former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and a normal corrupt person. The process of bringing back the corrupt fugitive is the same, whether it is Hasina or someone else. Hasina has many allegations like mass murders and crime, forcibly disappearance against humanity. It is known that Hasina’s 16 -year -long Awami League government was dropped in a violent mass rebellion led by students on August 5 last year.
