CM Omar Abdullah: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said that India Block, the alliance of opposition parties, is currently on the verge of collapse. His statement has created a stir in the block. While Omar said that “INDIA block is on life support right now”, other constituents expressed concern over the issue of lack of coordination in the alliance and demanded introspection. Shiv Sena (UBT) and Communist Party of India (CPI) were among those who have sought to revitalize the opposition alliance.
“Why doesn’t Kharge call any meeting?”
CPI general secretary D Raja, member of the INDIA block, appealed to all the parties in the alliance to introspect. Raja said, “When secular democratic parties came together to form INDIA Bloc, the whole objective was to save India and defeat BJP… What is happening now, why is INDIA Bloc not working in coordination?” Raja said, “As of now, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge is the chairperson of the INDIA block. But no meetings are being called and there is a lack of coordination. The CPI is appealing to all parties in the block to introspect. We need to see what lessons we take from the Haryana, Maharashtra and Bihar elections.”

Priyanka Chaturvedi told where the shortcomings remained
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “As far as the INDIA Alliance is concerned, even before the Bihar elections, Uddhav Thackeray had said that a meeting is necessary, but after the Lok Sabha elections, there has been no major meeting of the entire alliance.” He said, “Congress, as the party leading the INDIA Alliance and being a national party, will have to think again, re-energize and figure out how to come together again, just like we created momentum during the Lok Sabha elections.” Chaturvedi said that issues like seat sharing and late finalization of candidates, lack of common agenda, friendly fights are among the factors due to which the alliance suffered losses in states like Maharashtra and Bihar.
RJD disagrees with Omar
RJD’s Manoj Jha called Abdullah’s remarks a “hasty comment” and said “taunting comments” will not help. Jha said, “Whenever there is a bad situation for any reason, some people start commenting hastily. This should be avoided. Everything is in the hands of the public.” He said, “If it (India Bloc) is on life support, then they are also a part of it. What efforts are they making to recover the organs? This is not just a political party’s issue. It is the responsibility of all the political parties involved.”
BJP’s attack
Meanwhile, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said the opposition alliance “is already over.” Hussain said, “Omar Abdullah does not realize that the INDI Alliance has already ended, and its last rites have also taken place.” BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said this shows that “INDIA block parties are speaking against the Congress leadership. This is a slap on Rahul Gandhi’s leadership within the INDI alliance.”
