India -Fiji Relations: Modi said that India and Fiji may be at the distance of the sea, but our aspirations are riding on the same boat. Fiji’s Prime Minister Rabuka arrived in Delhi on a three -day visit on Sunday.

India–Fiji relations: India and Fiji on Monday finalized a comprehensive action plan to increase defense relations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Fiji Prime Minister Sitweni Ligamamada Rabuka committed to work jointly for peaceful Hind-Pramunds. Modi said that India and Fiji may be at the distance of the sea, but our aspirations are riding on the same boat. Fiji’s Prime Minister Rabuka arrived in Delhi on a three -day visit on Sunday. This is his first visit to India as the Prime Minister of the South Pacific region. Fiji is an important country for India in terms of marine security. In the backdrop of China’s untiring efforts to increase its strategic strength in the Pacific region, India is considering increasing its defense relations with Fiji.

Rabuka condemns Pahalgam terror attack

After the talks between Modi and Rabuka, the two sides signed seven agreements to increase cooperation in various fields including medical, skill development, trade and capacity building. In the talks, Modi and Rabuka strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and reiterated their commitment to “zero tolerance” to terrorism. In a joint statement, the two leaders rejected double standards on terrorism and agreed to increase bilateral cooperation in dealing with this threat. Modi said that we have decided to strengthen mutual cooperation in defense and security sector. He said in his statement that an action plan has been prepared for this. Prime Minister Modi said that India will provide training and equipment assistance to strengthen Fiji’s maritime security. In his address, Modi also mentioned India’s priorities for Global South.

Emphasis on regional peace and stability

He said that India is co-female in the development of Global South. He said that we are partners in building a world system where the freedom, ideas and identity of Global South are respected. The Prime Minister said that climate change is a threat to Fiji and New Delhi will help in dealing with disaster response. Modi and Rabuka shared their vision with an economic structure for a strong, inclusive and durable Hind-Pacific region and committed to work together to promote mutual prosperity. The joint statement said that the two leaders acknowledged the increasing pace in bilateral defense relations and emphasized the importance of their common interests in advancing regional peace, stability and prosperity. The joint statement said that the leaders underlined the importance of an independent, open, safe and inclusive Indian region.

Fiji gets 12 agricultural drones in gift

The statement said that he announced his intention to strengthen regional maritime security and to cooperate to contribute to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. India also announced the creation of the post of defense athe in his High Commission in Fiji. Prime Minister Modi announced to gift 12 agricultural drones and two mobile soil testing laboratories to Fiji. The two leaders agreed to the immediate need for extensive reforms in the United Nations, including the expansion of the United Nations Security Council to reflect contemporary geopolitical realities. Fiji confirmed his support for India’s candidature for the UNSC’s temporary membership for the tenure of 2028–29 as a permanent member in a corrected and expanded United Nations Security Council. The two countries confirmed continuously strengthening South-South cooperation as an essential step to effectively resolve contemporary global challenges.
