India-Bangladesh Talks: Both sides will discuss measures to curb crimes across the border. BSF is expected to raise issues related to attacks on Indians by the miscreants of the neighboring country.
India-Bangladesh talks: There will be biennial border talks between India and Bangladesh in Dhaka from 25 August. Both sides will discuss measures to curb crimes crossing border. The Border Security Force (BSF) expects the issues related to attacks on Indians and its personnel by the miscreants of the neighboring country. Last year, this will be the first time after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government when the Indian delegation will visit Dhaka. The two countries share 4,096 km long international border. The BSF has been nominated as major security and intelligence gathering agency for this front. The talks between the Border Security Forces BSF and its counterpart Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) of both countries take place twice a year. A BGB delegation came to India for talks between 17-20 February.
There will also be discussion on Indian citizens
A BSF spokesperson said that the 56th Director Level Border Coordination Conference between BSF and BGB will be held by BGB in Dhaka between 25 to 28 August. The Indian delegation will be led by BSF Director General (DG) Daljit Singh Chaudhary, while BGB DG Major General Mohammad Ashrafajjam Siddiqui will lead from Bangladesh. The spokesman said that the conference is being organized for discussion on border issues and better coordination between Border Security Forces. He said that Bangladesh -based miscreants/citizens -based miscreants/citizens -based BSF personnel and Indian citizens’ attack/attack, how to prevent crimes crossing border, build single line fences, action against Indian rebellious groups (IIGs) in Bangladesh, issues related to border infrastructure, coordinated border management scheme (CBMP) joint efforts (CBMP) Other issues will be discussed.
There is a total of 864.48 km without fence
For the first time on August 11, PTI reported about the program of these talks. A source in the security establishment said that the talks were originally to be held in July, but due to some administrative issues it is being held in August. The source said that no concrete policy steps are expected to come out of the talks as there is currently an interim government in Bangladesh. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government in Bangladesh, recently announced that the country will have general elections in February 2026. The announcement was made on August 5, 2024 with the first anniversary of the removal of Awami League regime of Sheikh Hasina. Director General level limit talks were held annually between 1975 and 1992. But in 1993 it was made biennial, in which both sides used to travel to New Delhi and Dhaka in turn. The Indo-Bangladesh border touches five states West Bengal (2,217 km), Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Assam (262 km) and Mizoram (318 km). According to official data, the total of 864.48 km of the Indo-Bangladesh border is without a fence, including a ‘non-individual’ interval of 174.51 km.
