India gave priority amid tension in Russia-European Union

Amid the ongoing tension in Russia and the European Union, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that India gives “top priority” to ensure the energy security of its people.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Egypt: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that India gives “top priority” to ensure the energy security of its people and it is necessary to have a “clear” approach about the broad global energy market. This is said by the European Union a few days after the announcement of new measures targeting the Russian energy sector, including a ban on the Wadinar Refinery in Gujarat. He said that it is necessary to not adopt “double standards” on energy issues. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri made this comment in response to a question in a media briefing organized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a four -day visit to Britain and Maldives. He said, “As far as energy security is concerned, we have been very clear about this. Providing energy security to the people of India is the top priority of the Government of India.”

Western countries and Russia mentioned

Vikram Misri was asked whether issues related to energy security in view of the new sanctions imposed by Western countries on the Russian energy sector would be involved in the conversation of Prime Minister Modi and his British counterpart Kir Stmper. Despite the growing Western sanctions on Moscow over the attack on Ukraine, India has increased its energy purchases from Russia over the years. Misri said, “We will do what we have to do in relation to energy security. On energy related issues, as we have said earlier, it is important to not adopt double standards and to have a clear view of the global status in the context of energy market.” Explain that the 18th package of sanctions announced last week by the European Union of 27 countries included several measures aimed at reducing the revenue of Russia’s oil and energy sector, such as the ban on import of petroleum products made from Russian crude oil and from a third country.

These measures also included the price limit of oil from US $ 60 per barrel to around US $ 48 per barrel and nominating the Wadinar Refinery, with a major stake of Russian energy company Rosneft. A few hours after the announcement of new measures by the European Union, India said that there should not be “double standards”, especially when it comes to energy trade. The Foreign Secretary said that it is necessary to be clear where the provider of energy products is located, where will they come from and what time does energy need.
