Sri Lanka: These days Sri Lanka is facing severe floods and landslides. Houses were destroyed, roads were submerged and thousands of families were rendered homeless. In such difficult times, India has once again extended a helping hand and started a rapid relief campaign for Sri Lanka. Under ‘Operation Sagar Bandhu’, India has transported 21 tonnes of relief material, more than 80 NDRF personnel and about 8 tonnes of equipment to Sri Lanka with the help of the Indian Air Force. These relief materials were sent from Hindon airbase between Friday and Saturday night via a C-130 and an IL-76 aircraft.

The Air Force team said that this consignment included essential ration, sanitary supplies, medical needs and equipment used in field operations. The C-130 aircraft landed at Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport at around 1.30 am, where it was received by Indian High Commission officials and Sri Lankan Air Force officers. Anyway, India clearly said that under the policy of ‘Neighbourhood First’ we stand strongly with Sri Lanka. Earlier, on Friday itself, Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and frontline ship INS Udayagiri had also reached Sri Lanka with the first consignment of relief material.
