ISRO Chairman V Narayanan: ISRO President V. Narayanan said on Friday that India will have to do its number of satellites in space in the next three years, from the current 55, about three times. In the ‘Indian Space Program – achievements, challenges and future perspective’, Narayanan said that by 2040 India will be equal to any other country in terms of infrastructure of Space Technology and Application Area. He also said that 12 launch vehicle missions have been planned by ISRO this year. The upcoming mission, NASA-Israo Synthetic Aperture Radar (Nisar), will be launched by GSLV F16 of India on 30 July. V. Narayanan said that India will have to three times the number of satellites by 2040.

‘Chandrayaan is going to make landing’

ISRO President V. Narayanan said, “Now we are working on building our space station. We are going to make our Chandrayaan landing. Now, 55 are in satellite orbit and are serving the common people of the country. In the next three years, this number should be about three times. The need should be about three times. The need is very big. Demand is so big. Talking to reporters, he said that in 2035 India will construct a full space station and the first module will be set up in orbit in 2028. V. Narayanan said that as far as reforms in the space sector are concerned, a lot of work is going on and earlier, the work of ISRO used to be model service oriented, but now he wants to take advantage of business opportunities. He said that after the success of Chandrayaan-3, Japan wanted to cooperate with India and as a result, ISRO and Japanese Space Agency Jaxa decided to work on the Chandrayaan-5/Lupex mission. He said, “We are making satellites together and launch will be done by Japan. The weight of Chandrayaan-3 lander was 1,600 kg and it will be 6,600 kg. We are working on it and you will get to hear good news in the next two years.”

V. Narayanan said that ISRO is in the process of launching a 6,500 kg communication satellite in the US using Indian rockets in the next three months. He further said that the Center has given its approval to set up a third launch site in Sriharikota with a budget of about Rs 4,000 crore. According to him, ISRO hopes that the Gaganyaan Mission will launch Indian astronauts in space in the first quarter of 2027. ISRO has installed 433 satellites from 34 countries that do not have space technology using Indian rockets. He informed that the total number of satellites launched by ISRO in the last ten years is 518. ISRO Chairman and Secretary, Department of Space, Narayanan to prestigious GP.
