US-India Trade Agreement: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday that India have some boundaries in business talks with America. The Foreign Minister insisted that the Indian government will protect the interests of farmers. Jaishankar said that talks are going on between the two sides for the trade agreement. Speaking at the Economic Times World Leaders Forum, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar also said that the way US President Donald Trump’s way of treating the world is a big change in the traditional way and the whole world is facing this issue. Jaishankar Prasad said that this is a change in itself which is not limited to India. The relations between New Delhi and Washington have declined after Trump doubled tariffs on Indian goods to 50 percent, including 25 percent additional fees for India’s purchase of Russian crude oil.
Trade major issue between the two countries
The Foreign Minister said that business is a really major issue between the two countries. The conversation is still going on and the bottom line is that we have some target lines. Red lines are mainly in the interest of our farmers and somewhat small growers. So when people say that we have succeeded or unsuccessful, my reply to this is that as a government we are committed to protect the interests of our farmers and small producers. We are very firm on this. This is not something on which we can compromise. The Foreign Minister also replied to the repeated allegations made by the Trump administration officials that India is making profits by purchasing crude oil from Russia and then selling refined petroleum products at Europe and other places at premium prices.
Foreign Minister said- Do not buy oil from India if there is a problem
Jaishankar said that it is ridiculous that people who work for a business-supportive American administration are accusing other people of doing business. This is really strange. If you have a problem in buying oil or refined products from India, do not buy it. Nobody forces you to buy it. But Europe buys, America buys, so if you don’t like it, do not buy it. The Foreign Minister also rejected the comments that India’s relations with China are improving in view of tension in New Delhi-Washington relations. I think it would be wrong to analyze it. He said that we can prepare an integrated response for a particular situation by taking everything together.
