Israel: The Israeli army on Monday issued orders to vacate most of Rafa, indicating that it could soon launch another major ground campaign in the southern city of Gaza Strip. Earlier this month, Israel ended its ceasefire with Hamas. After this, he resumed his aerial and ground war. In the beginning of March, it cut all the supply of food, fuel, medicine and human aid to about 2 million Palestinians in the region to pressurize Hamas to accept changes in the ceasefire agreement.
The order of withdrawal is for the entire city and surrounding areas. The army has ordered the Palestinians to move towards Mousal, which is an extension of dirty tent camps along the coast. The order came during the Eid-ul-Fitra, which is usually a festive Muslim holiday observed at the end of the month of Ramadan. Israel launched a major campaign in Rafa on the Egyptian border last May, which ruined a large part of it.
The army captured a strategic corridor at the Rafa crossing along with the border as well as Egypt, the only entrance to the outer world of Gaza, which did not control Israel. In January, Israel was to withdraw from the corridor under a ceasefire with Hamas under US pressure, but later refused to do so, citing the need to stop the smuggling of arms. Israel has vowed to intensify its military operations until Hamas releases the remaining 59 hostages, of which 24 are expected to be alive.
Hamas rejected the demand for putting arms and leaving the area
Israel has also demanded that Hamas be given weapons and leaves this area. These conditions were not involved in the ceasefire agreement and which Hamas has rejected. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that the Israel would take the responsibility of security in Gaza after the war and would implement the proposal of US President Donald Trump to resettle Gaza in other countries. Meanwhile, Hamas has insisted on implementing the signed agreement, which was asked to release the remaining hostages in exchange for permanent ceasefire and return of Israel.
The negotiations on those parts of the agreement were to begin in February, but only preliminary talks have taken place. The war began when Hamas -led militants attacked in Israel on October 7, 2023, created a ruckus in army bases and agricultural communities and killed about 1,200 people, most of whom were citizens. The militants took the other 251 people hostage, most of whom have been released in ceasefire or other deals.
More than 50 thousand Palestinians were killed in Israeli counter attack
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, more than 50 thousand Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli counter attack, which does not tell how many citizens or fighters were there. At its peak, the war displaced about 90% of the population of Gaza, of which many people had fled several times. Large areas of Gaza are completely destroyed, and it is not clear how or when anything will be rebuilt.
