Shahid Nadeem, the victim of the Malegaon blast, said that some families of the victims would file an independent appeal against this decision. He also accused the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of not prosecuting false testimony against the witnesses who were retracted during the trial. In this case, the special NIA court of Mumbai on Thursday acquitted all the seven accused in the case including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit. Recalling the incident, Liaquat Sheikh, who used to work as a driver at that time, said, “Farheen came out of the house to buy Vada-Pav at Bhikku Chowk in Malegaon city on the evening of September 29, 2008. I heard a bang sound. We heard near the explosion site. Was someone said that I and my wife ran into the hospital, where we found her in bad condition. ” He said that the then anti -terrorism squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare had arrested the accused with enough evidence. Six people, including Liaquat Sheikh’s daughter, were killed and 101 were injured in the blast.

Nisar Ahmed, whose son Syed Azhar was also killed, said that he did not get justice and he would knock on the High Court. He said that the victims of any explosion, irrespective of any religion, should get justice. Usman Khan, whose nephew Irfan Khan (22) died in an explosion, said Irfan used to drive an auto rickshaw and went to drink tea at Bhikku Chowk when the explosion occurred. He said, “First we took him to a local hospital, from there we took him to Nashik.” He further said that the doctors of Nashik Hospital asked him to take him to Mumbai. Khan said that he was given the official J.J. of Mumbai. He was rushed to the hospital, but died after 10 hours of treatment. He said that he is not happy with the decision. He asked, “First some Muslims were arrested in this case and later they got a clean chit. Now these people have not been convicted, so who is the guilty?”
‘Decision exposing failures’
Advocate Shahid Nadeem, who represents the victims, said that the decision to be acquitted highlight the “big failures” of the NIA. He told the news agency PTI, “It seems that there is a lack of effective strategy. Witnesses refused during the trial, yet despite the request of the victims, the NIA did not accuse any of them of false testimony. The victims are still struggling with the shock that they had to suffer. Nadeem said, “As a lawyer, who was present in the daily trial, I believe that if the NIA had given priority to the victims’ concerns, she could have done better.” Out of 323 witnesses of the prosecution, 37 did not support the prosecution case during their testimony, and were declared ‘unfavorable’.
