JK New Rajyasabha MP: The results of the elections held on four Rajya Sabha seats of Jammu and Kashmir have been announced. National Conference candidates have won three out of four seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate has won one seat. The names of three National Conference candidates who won the Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir are – Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Sajjad Ahmed Kitchlu and Gurvinder Singh Oberoi. Satpal Sharma has won from BJP. Let us tell you that this is the first Rajya Sabha election after Jammu and Kashmir became a Union Territory. 1. Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan (National Conference)

Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan, 75, is a four-time former MLA and former minister, who was first elected to the assembly from Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district in 1983. He retained his seat in the 1987 and 1996 elections. After losing the 2002 elections, Ramzan returned to the assembly in 2008. However, he lost to Sajjad Gani Lone in the 2014 and 2024 assembly elections. Ramzan was a minister in the Farooq Abdullah government in 1996. In this Rajya Sabha election, Ramzan won with 57 votes, while BJP candidate Ali Mohammad Mir got only 28 votes.

2. Sajjad Ahmed Kitchlu (National Conference)

Sajjad Ahmed Kitchlu (60) comes from an influential political family of Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. His father, Bashir Ahmed Kitchlew, was an important party leader and held key portfolios in the Farooq Abdullah government in the 1980s and 1996. The senior Kitchlew died in 2001, when he was the social welfare minister. Sajjad jumped into electoral politics and won the Kishtwar seat in the 2002 elections. He retained his seat in the 2008 elections as well. However, Sajjad Ahmed Kitchlu lost the 2014 and 2024 assembly elections. In 2015, he was elected MLC of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council. This time Kitchlu emerged victorious by securing 58 votes and defeated BJP candidate Rakesh Mahajan.

3. Gurvinder Singh Oberoi (National Conference)

56-year-old Oberoi is the second Sikh MP from Jammu and Kashmir. Also known as Shammi Oberoi, he is a businessman and holds a diploma in hotel management. Oberoi, currently the treasurer of the National Conference, is the son of late party leader and MLC Dharamvir Singh Oberoi. His father was also the chief polling agent of Omar Abdullah during his parliamentary elections in 1999. He played an important role in securing the support of PDP and Congress for the Rajya Sabha elections. He is considered a key aide of both party president Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and was appointed party treasurer in March 2017.

4. Sat Sharma (BJP)

64-year-old Sat Sharma, president of BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit, is a chartered accountant by profession. He was appointed the Jammu and Kashmir chief of BJP after the assembly elections held in the Union Territory last year. This is his second term as Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief. He led the BJP here from 2015 to 2018. Sharma was a minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government for two months. He won the 2014 assembly elections from Jammu West assembly constituency on BJP ticket. However, his party lost the 2024 assembly elections despite winning 29 seats.
