Leh Administration: Seeing the situation becoming normal, Leh Administration has started mobile internet service. Besides, to maintain public safety, surveillance is being maintained to prevent fake news on social media.
Leh Administration: The Leh administration in the Union Territory of Ladakh used legal provisions to stop the spread of misinformation on social media platforms in the district. This strictness of the administration started after the violence last month. Mobile internet service has once again been restored in Leh district after being suspended for more than a fortnight following the widespread violence on September 24. Let us tell you that when there was widespread violence in the Union Territory, four people were killed, while many others were seriously injured. At the same time, Leh District Magistrate Romil Singh Donk said that the order to ban fake news issued under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) will remain in force for about two months.
Action will be taken under section 163
The District Officer said that there are sufficient grounds to take action under Section 163 of the BNSS to establish peace and maintain harmony in the area. Donk said in the order that it has been observed that some individuals/groups are spreading rumors and misinformation through social media platforms, which is likely to disturb law and order. The order further said that if any person tries to spread fake news on social media, strict legal action will be taken against him under the relevant provisions of the law. Meanwhile, the DM has instructed all social media group administrators to keep an eye on the content being shared in their groups and to immediately remove any fake, misleading or rumor-spreading content.
There should be a judicial inquiry into the death of all four people.
Donk further said that they also have to introduce admin-only control on WhatsApp groups. This order has been issued to maintain public safety and public order. Mobile internet services remained suspended in Leh following the widespread violence in the Union Territory on September 24, in which four people were killed. Apart from this, Apex Body Leh co-chairman Charing Dorje said that if the situation in Ladakh is to remain normal then the arrests of most people will have to be stopped. On the other hand, the administration will have to announce an inquiry by a committee of four retired judges to investigate the death of four people. Also, Apex Body Leh and Kargil Democratic Alliance are continuously demanding that Ladakh should get statehood and it should be included in the Sixth Schedule.
