New Delhi Health Update: 58 new cases of dengue were reported this week, of which the maximum cases were reported in South, Central and Shahdara zones. 191 malaria cases were registered in Delhi till 23 August this year.
New Delhi Health Update: Till 23 August this year, 412 cases of dengue were registered in Delhi, which is slightly less than 425 cases of 2024 and less than half of 942 cases of the same period in 2023. According to official data, 9,266 cases of dengue in the city were reported in 2023 and 6,391 cases in 2024, while this year’s total figure is still very low. Dengue deaths are also under control. This year no case has been reported so far, while in 2024, 11 deaths occurred in 2024 and 19 deaths. Weekly update shows that 58 new cases of dengue were reported this week, of which the maximum number of cases were reported in South, Central and Shahdara zones. 191 malaria cases were registered in Delhi till 23 August this year, while in 2024 there were 181 cases in the same period and 126 cases in 2023.
26 new cases of malaria
According to the weekly update, 26 new cases of malaria have been reported this week, of which most cases have been reported in Najafgarh, South and West regions. In 2024, 792 malaria cases were reported in Delhi, but this year’s trend indicates another high-loving weather. Chikungunya cases have also increased. 32 infections were registered till 23 August, while in 2024, there were 17 cases in 28 and 2023 during the same period. The highest number of cases were registered in South and Shahdara regions this week. Last year, 267 cases of Chikungunya were reported in the city – which is the highest in recent years. Statistics of Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) mosquito campaign shows a boom in preventive efforts in this season. This year between January 1 and August 23, authorities inspected more than 2.67 crore houses for breeding mosquitoes, the highest in three years. Of these, 1.37 lakh houses were confirmed the breeding of mosquitoes.
Sprayed in 8.79 lakh houses
Around 98,976 legal notices were issued for violations and 18,795 prosecution was initiated. During the same period, 8.79 lakh houses were sprayed, while MCD also conducted 4,588 general body campaigns, including a fine of Rs 13.89 lakh. Fishes were put in 304 water bodies for biological control, compared to 209 last year. With the arrival of September close to September, the extreme weather of vector -borne diseases in Delhi – residents have been urged to maintain dry surroundings and cooperate in civil mosquito control measures. According to the previous data, MCD visited 2.08 crores in 2022, 2.48 crore in 2023 and 2.34 crore houses in 2024. The report further states that although the transmission of dengue usually occurs at the peak between September and November, the number of cases till August this year is much lower than the previous year.
