This project is part of the widespread initiative to make civil services digital

The civil body said that this project is part of the widespread initiative to make civil services digital. It has identified eight places including two clusters, where this system will be introduced in the initial stage. These include Nehru Place (Outer Ring), Nehru Place (Inner Ring), Shastri Park, Kashmiri Gate ISBT, Okhla Industrial Area Phase-I, Narela DDA Market, Lajpat Nagar Cluster (Central Market, Veer Savarkar Marg and Old Double Story Road) and Karol Baghl Bagh Cluster (Ajmal Khan Road, Ajmal Khan Road and Arya Samaj Road). The civil body has released an tender to select an agency for operation, management and collection of parking fees using digital systems at its public parking sites.

Fastag for car and QR Code for two wheelers and UPI app

According to the tender, the selected agency will be responsible for end-to-end management including daily operations, technical deployment, digital payments and supervision of site. The document states that the contract includes integrating the Fastag system with the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) infrastructure and ensuring spontaneous connectivity with UPI and other digital payments platforms. According to the tender document, the selected agency will install and maintain all the necessary infrastructure including RFID reader, fastag scanner, boom barrier, ANPR (automated number plate identification) camera, UPI/NCMC terminal, digital signage and CCTV. For two -wheelers, where the fastag is not applied, the parking fee will be collected through the QR code scanning, UPI app or NCMC.

All payment will go to MCD through central dashboard

The agency will also need to provide on-ground staff for customer assistance, ensure security and manage daily tasks. All payment data will be shared with MCD through the central dashboard, so that the civil body can track the movement of the vehicle, revenue flow and the availability of parking space live. Bidders will have to demonstrate technical capacity, financial strengthening and experience with RFID, Fastag and UPI-competent systems. He said that once operational, this system is expected to reduce a significant decrease in the waiting time, especially in high traffic areas such as Nehru Place, Lajpat Nagar and Kashmiri Gate ISBT, where manual parking collection often causes long queues and traffic jams.
