CM Chandrababu Naidu: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has taken a big decision for the farmers. He said that a horticulture center will be built in Rayalaseema district to increase the income and yield of farmers. Naidu on Tuesday directed officials to encourage farmers in Rayalaseema region and Prakasam district to grow 18 high-demand horticulture crops in these areas. The Chief Minister asked the officials to provide necessary assistance and facilities to the farmers for effective cultivation of these varieties. Naidu said that 18 most sought after horticultural crops globally are grown in Rayalaseema and Prakasam districts. Farmers should be provided facilities to take advantage of this opportunity.
Rs 40,000 crore action plan
Naidu asked officials to utilize the funds under the Purvodaya scheme, which is a central government programme. Its objective is the all-round development of the eastern region of India including Andhra Pradesh. Reviewing horticulture in Rayalaseema under the Purvodaya scheme at the State Secretariat, the Chief Minister prepared an action plan involving 92 groups to improve the livelihood of farmers in Rayalaseema and Prakasam districts. The state government has said that an action plan worth Rs 40,000 crore will be prepared to support these initiatives. Naidu also aimed to transform Rayalaseema into a horticulture hub, with focus on certification and traceability of produce.
Special demand for 18 crops
He said that 65 varieties of horticultural crops are grown in Rayalaseema, 18 crops have particularly strong demand and should be promoted. CM said that cultivation of horticulture crops in 50 lakh acres will be beneficial for the farmers. He stressed on promoting 18 major crops with transportation, logistics, marketing and cold-chain facilities. Naidu also talked about sending horticulture produce through air cargo to Dubai for re-export. The CM said that the government has planned to spend Rs 14,000 crore on farming and marketing projects to promote horticulture. Said that this scheme of the government will bring prosperity to the farmers.
