In the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary informed that more than 4.7 lakh pirated NCERT textbooks have been seized. This information is given in a written reply.
Education Ministry on pirated NCERT textbooks: The Ministry of Education told the Rajya Sabha that since 2024, more than 4.7 lakh pirated NCERT textbooks have been seized. Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary shared this information in a written reply in the Upper House. According to the news agency PTI, Jayant Chaudhary said that “There have been cases of piracy of NCERT textbooks from different parts of the country. During the year 2024 and 2025, about 4.71 lakh pyreted copies of NCERT textbooks have been seized in various campaigns in different states. Pyresi is inspired by the professional objectives of mainly dishonest elements.
Jayant Chaudhary told the purpose of NCERT
Jayant Chaudhary said, “The main objective of NCERT is to provide quality textbooks to every students across the country without any profit and loss.” Giving information about the steps taken to curb piracy, the Minister of State said that in the last one year, NCERT has raided the records of manufacturers and vendors of Pirated textbooks, records of manufacturers of paper with illegal NCERT watermarks and seized stock and machinery worth more than Rs 20 crore. NCERT has also taken several active steps to attack the root of piracy. This includes a 20 percent decrease in the price of NCERT textbooks, timely printing of NCERT courses, improving the quality of paper and printing (using modern machines), and promoting online sales of textbooks through e-commerce platforms.
What is the piracy of the textbook?
Jayant Chaudhary said, “NCERT has also conducted a pilot test of a technology-based anti-piresi solution on one million copies of a sixth grade textbook. This technique-based solution has been developed and patented by the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.” Explain that the piracy of textbooks is done illegally by making copies of their copies or in digital form. People scan the books and make PDF or sell through photocopy. Free download links are shared on unauthorized websites, torrent, or social media. This causes financial loss to writers and publishers, as materials are used without their consent. To prevent piracy, it is necessary to strictly follow copyright rules and increase awareness among people. On many occasions, there have been cases of piracy.
