PM Modi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched two major schemes worth Rs 35,440 crore for the agriculture sector. This program took place on the occasion of the birth anniversary of socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan. Said that the agricultural system of the country has to be strengthened. Many reforms took place in agriculture since 2014. Self-reliance mission in pulses is necessary. Grain production has increased in the country. Said that today the country imports pulses in large quantities. He inaugurated projects worth more than Rs 5,450 crore in agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries and food processing sectors, while laying the foundation stone of additional projects worth about Rs 815 crore. Modi said that the objective of the Self-Reliance Mission in Pulses is to increase pulses production from the current 252.38 lakh tonnes to 350 lakh tonnes by the year 2030-31 and reduce the country’s import dependence.
100 agricultural districts will be rejuvenated
Modi said the Rs 24,000 crore ‘Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana’ aims to rejuvenate 100 low-performing agricultural districts. The scheme will focus on increasing productivity, promoting crop diversification, improving irrigation and storage and ensuring access to credit in selected 100 districts. Both these schemes, already approved by the Cabinet, will be implemented from the upcoming Rabi (winter) season till 2030-31. The projects inaugurated include Artificial Insemination Training Centers in Bengaluru and Jammu and Kashmir, Centers of Excellence in Amreli and Banas, an IVF lab in Assam under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, milk powder plants in Mehsana, Indore and Bhilwara and a fish feed plant under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana in Tezpur.
PM interacted with farmers
During the program, Modi distributed certificates to farmers certified under the National Natural Farming Mission, Maitri Technicians and Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies (PACS) converted into Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samridhi Kendras (PMKSK) and Common Service Centers (CSCs). The program included significant achievements made under government initiatives, including 50 lakh farmer memberships in 10,000 farmer producer organizations (FPOs), of which 1,100 FPOs recorded an annual turnover of more than Rs 1 crore in 2024-25. Among other achievements, 50,000 farmers were given certificates under the National Natural Farming Mission. Apart from this, 38,000 Maitri (Multipurpose AI Technicians in Rural India) were given certification. Whereas more than 10,000 multipurpose and e-packs were approved for computerization. On this occasion, Modi said that dairy and fishery cooperative societies have also been strengthened. Modi also interacted with farmers engaged in pulses cultivation.
