Uttar Pradesh Monsoon Update: The situation has become frightening after torrential rains in Uttar Pradesh. The 13 districts of the state are in the grip of floods and major rivers like Ganga, Yamuna and Betwa are flowing above the danger mark in many places. Life has been disturbed due to waterlogging on the ghats, destruction in villages and water entering the streets of cities.

Ganges showing raudra form

The water level of the Ganges river in Varanasi reached above the danger mark of 71.262 meters on Monday morning and all the major ghats were submerged. According to Shivam Agarhari of Ganga Seva Nidhi, the famous ‘Ganga Aarti’ of Dashashwamedh Ghat is now being organized on the roofs of the houses. At the same time, advanced platforms have been made for the funeral at Manikarnika and Harishchandra Ghats. The operation of boats has been banned and NDRF teams are constantly engaged in monitoring and relief operations.

Water enters more than 200 villages in Prayagraj

The water level of both the Ganges and Yamuna rivers in Prayagraj is above 84.73 meters for the last two days. On Monday morning, the water level of Yamuna was recorded 86.04 meters (Naini) and Ganga 86.03 meters (Phaphamau). More than 200 villages and 60 urban settlements of the district have been affected by this. 107 locality of the city like Rajapur, Govindpur, Chhoti-Bara Baghada, Belikchahar and Chandpur Salori are prominently affected. Dozens of villages of Phulpur, Meja, Bara, Handia and Soraon tehsils have been submerged in rural areas.

Floods spread in 13 districts

According to the report of the Relief Commissioner’s Office, the 13 districts of the state which have been flooded are included, Prayagraj, Jalaun, Auraiya, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Kanpur Dehat, Banda, Etawah, Fatehpur, Kanpur city, Chitrakoot, Mau and Ballia. On average 14.2 mm rainfall was recorded across the state on Sunday and 24 districts received heavy rainfall. Schools have been discharged in the affected areas and flood relief camps have been set up where people are being provided temporary stoppage, food and medical facilities.

The flood crisis is deepening due to continuous rains in Uttar Pradesh. Crossing the danger mark of major rivers has caused havoc in both rural and urban areas. In Varanasi, where Ganga Aarti is now being held on the roofs, hundreds of villages in Prayagraj are submerged in water. The administration is engaged in relief work, but the situation remains serious. If the rain continues like this, then the situation may worsen.
