Bihar Election: More than four lakh security personnel will be deployed across Bihar to ensure free and fair assembly elections.
Bihar Election: Administrative preparations for Bihar Assembly elections have intensified. Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar said on Thursday that more than four lakh security personnel will be deployed across Bihar to ensure free and fair assembly elections. He said that for the first time, security personnel will not be dropped by helicopter at polling stations in remote areas, as all the forces will reach their deployment sites by road. He also said that due to significant reduction in Naxal activities in the state, no polling station will be shifted this time. Kumar told PTI on Thursday that more than four lakh security personnel will be deployed in Bihar to ensure free and fair assembly elections.
Security personnel will go by road for the first time
The Director General of Police said that about 500 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have already been deployed on pre-poll duty. In the next two-three days, 500 more companies of CAPF will reach and by the third week of October, 500 more companies will reach the state for election duty. There are about 100 employees in a company. He said that 60,000 personnel of Bihar Police will also be deployed for election duty. He said that 19,000 newly appointed constables (who are undergoing training), about 1.5 lakh chowkidars (rural police) will also be deployed on election duty. The DGP said that since there has been significant improvement in the road infrastructure in the state, especially in rural areas, we have decided to send security personnel to remote areas by road. This is the first time in the state that security personnel will not be dropped by helicopter for election duty in remote areas.
Elections on 6 and 11 November
He said that due to continuous security action, Naxalite activities have reduced significantly. Therefore, the government has decided not to shift any polling station this time. He said that we will ensure complete security of voters in sensitive areas. He said Bihar Police’s Quick Reaction Teams (QRT), comprising Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Special Task Force (STF) commandos, will be on reserve to deal with emergencies, security breaches and other serious incidents. The DGP said that apart from this, we have also created a VIP security pool in each district to provide fool-proof security cover to VVIPs during the assembly elections. He said that the security personnel of this pool are highly trained and have received special training from the National Security Guard (NSG). Assembly elections will be held in two phases on 6 and 11 November.
