MP Onion Rate: The price of vegetables keeps increasing and decreasing throughout the year. We often hear news about the poor condition of farmers. At this time, farmers of Madhya Pradesh are crying tears of onion. In Madhya Pradesh, the price of onion has come down to Re 1 per kg, which means it is negligible. A big problem has arisen before the farmers. At the price of Re 1 per kg, they are not able to even cover their costs. Farmers are now demanding help from the government.

the cost is not even covered

Babu Malvi, a farmer from Panth Piploda in Mandsaur district, said, “I had sown onion in one bigha. The crop has been good, yielding about 6-7 quintals, but I cannot believe the price of onion. Today the price of onion was Rs 1.99 per kg, which is not even Rs 2. With this, I am not even able to cover the expenses of traveling to the market.” After so much hard work we are not getting the right price in the market. It takes fare and food to come here. It costs Rs 100 just for food. Another farmer Bhopal Singh said, ‘I had brought seven quintals of onion, which was sold at Rs 170 per quintal i.e. 1 rupee 70 paise. The fare for bringing onion itself is Rs 1000.

There is anger and disappointment among farmers regarding the price of onion. He says that after working so hard it is better to feed the cattle instead of selling them at this price. The farmers tearfully narrated their ordeal. Due to not getting the right price, many farmers destroyed their crops in the fields out of frustration. This shows how helpless the farmers are.

Why did onion prices decrease?

The price of onion or any vegetable depends on its availability. If availability is less then prices will increase. At the same time, when there is more crop or more supply in the market, its prices fall. Apart from this, earlier onion was exported to foreign countries and farmers got good prices. But due to changes in international policies, onions are no longer being exported to some countries. Due to this, there is excess supply of onion across the country, due to which prices are falling and farmers are suffering huge losses.

Congress raised questions

Congress has raised questions on the government on the condition of farmers in Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh Congress wrote on X, Farmers of Madhya Pradesh are crying tears of blood. Onion is being sold at Rs 2 per kg in the market here. Farmers are forced to sell their crops at throwaway prices. They are not getting the right price for their crops. Along with this, he also shared the photo of the agricultural produce market.
