Muzaffarnagar Police: In Muzaffarnagar city of Uttar Pradesh, police has taken major action to reduce noise pollution. Police have launched a drive against loudspeakers and removed more than 55 loudspeakers from different mosques for alleged violation of Supreme Court guidelines on volume limits. Officials informed about this action on Wednesday.

Supreme Court issued instructions

According to the police, loudspeakers were removed from the mosques located in Civil Lines, Kotwali and Khalapar police station areas. Circle Officer (City) Siddharth Mishra told reporters that the district authorities have directed the caretakers of mosques, temples and gurudwaras to strictly follow the instructions issued by the Supreme Court and the government regarding the use of loudspeakers. He said the objective of the ongoing drive is to ensure that all existing loudspeakers operate within the prescribed legal sound levels.

Police visits from morning till evening

Muzaffarnagar Police had started this campaign last week. Police teams tour the entire city from morning till evening and investigate which loudspeaker is causing noise pollution. After removing the speakers, they are deposited in the police station. The police is also giving written warnings to the mosque managers to follow the instructions of the Supreme Court. Police station in-charge Civil Lines said that during Azaan and other programs the loudspeakers were making excessive noise, about which the local people had also complained.

‘No target on any particular religion’

CO City Siddharth Mishra said that this action is going on in the entire district. Be it rural or urban, immediate action will be taken on all causes of noise pollution. He also made it clear that this action is not being taken targeting any particular religion. Noise pollution rules apply to temples, gurudwaras and all religious places.
