New Delhi: India has taken a step further in the field of indigenous shipbuilding, which is an important step in the direction of self -sufficient India. India on Friday launched the construction work of the offshore patrol ship yard. This patrol vessel yard will be used for protecting and monitoring the beachs, searching and rescue operations and anti-robbery operations. The construction work of the scrubbing offshore patrol vessel Yard-3040 was organized on 24 April at the Garden Reach Shipbiladers and Engineers Limited (GRSE) in Kolkata.

The chief guest of the ceremony was Warship Production and Acquisition Controller Vice Admiral Rajaram Swaminathan. On this occasion, GRSE Chairman and Managing Director Commodore PR Hari (retired) along with other senior officials of the Indian Navy and Shipyard was also present. This feat is an important moment in the manufacture of offshore patrol ships, which shows India’s indigenous ship -making capabilities more.
Will also be used for anti -robbery operations
A contract was signed with Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), Goa and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata on 30 March for indigenous design and construction of 11 offshore patrol ships (NGOPVs). Of these, seven ships will be constructed by the lead shipyard GSL and four ships will be built by followed GRSE. About three thousand tons weighing offshore patrol ships have been built for coastal defense and monitoring, search and rescue operations, safety of offshore properties and anti -robbery operations. This work is an important milestone in the overall project time limit. Eleven offshore patrol ships are being constructed in accordance with the attitude of ‘self -sufficient India’ and ‘Make in India’. This achievement is ready to increase the maritime power of the Navy.
